You will not see many flashing lights or illuminated signs in the Bold Coast region.
One of the greatest things about the nighttime here is that it is REALLY DARK and you can actually see the stars!
Opportunities to view the night sky abound, including guided night walks and guided night paddles. Nighttime also is a great time for birding if you are interested in owls, for watching fire-flies light up the meadows, and for viewing marine phosphorescence. In spring and early summer, the nights explode with the choruses of breeding frogs. Whatever you choose, don’t forget the bug spray, because mosquitoes and blackflies also love the nightlife here!
If being outside at night isn’t your scene (and even if it is!) the Bold Coast region also boasts a rich and growing arts and music culture. Live music, theater, art walks and special art events occur regularly across the region.
For the perfect night on the town, follow your dinner with an array of lively local options. Join the community for music on the green in Calais, Eastport Moonlight Movies, a little of both at the Milbridge Theatre, or a contra dance or Open Mic at the Cherryfield Academy Community Center. Schoodic Arts for All in Winter Harbor offers a variety of evening entertainment options. Enjoy an evening of theater or music in Eastport, a sunset cruise in Lubec, a moonlight paddle with Downeast Coastal Conservancy, or simply stroll down the to watch the rising moon – stargazers might especially love the nearby Acadia Night Sky Festival.
Make sure to check the local newspaper, community bulletin board, library, historical society, or local chamber of commerce for up-to-date information on activities in Bold Coast communities.
